Children of God BY Malusi Skunyana
JOHN 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:
JOHN 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
When you accept Jesus as your personal Saviour, you truly become a child of God. The process of transformation by which a repentant sinner is born anew to reflect the image of God is so real such that the product of this transformation is not worthy to be called anything else but a child of God. So wonderful is the design of the plan of salvation that transforms a real sinner into a real child of God.
The Bible records that when the Son of God came to this world bringing salvation, the world did not accept Him. But those who accepted Him were given the privilege to belong to God’s family as sons and daughters of God. Throughout the human history since the entrance of sin into this world, there have always been two groups of people, those who loved God, and those who did not love God. When Jesus came to our world, the loyalty of all human beings was tested, whether they were on the side of God or on the side of Satan the adversary. His death on the cross leaves men with no middle ground to stand on; they are either with God or with Satan. They either believe in God’s only Son Jesus Christ and receive salvation or join Satan’s host in unbelief and rebellion and receive condemnation.
Those who believe in Jesus and accept Him as their personal Saviour are born anew as children of God. This rebirth reproduces God’s character in them and results in a total transformation of their former selves. This process, brought about by God Himself, produces new creatures who are called children of God. These are worthy to carry God’s name, and God is not ashamed to call them His sons and daughters. We can thank God for His wonderful sacrifice when He gave up His only Son to die for sinners, for His death has made it possible for sinners to be made children of God, when they accept God’s only Son as their Saviour.
Dear friend, no matter how dark your past has been, you may have a new start with Jesus. You may not be able to undo what you have done in your past, but God is offering you a new life in Jesus Christ His beloved Son. People may have written you off, you may have thought your case was hopeless, but you may experience real and total transformation, if you will accept Jesus as your personal Saviour. Turn to Him with confession of your past sins, pray for forgiveness and rebirth, and you will experience the grace of God that saves. You will walk away from this experience as a new creature, a child of God, and your life will never be the same again. May God bless you! Amen!
